my husband found this spider outside our front door, and i was hoping someone could help us out with what kind of spider it is, we are from Texas.

Your spider looks like one of the steatoda family of cobweb spides. Black and Brown widows belong to this family as well but I can't see underneath it to see if it has the tell tale red markings. If it doesn't then it could be a false widow steatoda grossa or nobilis - glen
